Are there bigger days than today in running?
I don't think so. After an immense elite womens race at London with the race going into the last K - there was an absolutely historic moment when not only the word record was broken, but a new barrier in marathon running.
For al of my life - I have heard perople talking about Roger Bannister and the 4 minute mile being broken. It led the way to so many people breaking that barrier, year on year, even high school kids.
Today - we seen the sub 2 hour marathon be broken. I was in awe - I don't remember the last time I felt so emotional watching people I don't know compete. The margins for error are so small.
Can you imagine running a sub 2 hour marathon and not even winning the race? Unbelieveable. Again - the margins for error are so small.
You either win, or you don't. And winning doesn't mean you have to come first. We are racing ourselves - I remember the first time I tried ti run a sub 3 marathon - I finished in 3 hours and 15 seconds. Had I trained harder, or been smarter about it I'd have done it.
So let's train hard, this session could make all the difference to your own sub 2. Let's get at it tomorrow!
