One of the easiest ways to improve as a runner is consistency. It's the single most important thing you can do.

It's what I tell people to do when they ask how to get quicker. It might not be exciting, but it's what works.

And that's why I say it so much - I consistently tell people to be consistent.

Another way I think you can improve, and to add a little fun into your training that almost no distance runners do - sometimes it's good to go and have an out and out sprint. Like you used to do when you were a child.

No looking at your pace on your watch, no other thoughts other than let's see how fast we can go. For as long as you can manage.

If you want to be better at chess - play more chess. If you want to get faster at running - run faster sometimes. It doesn't always have to be a structured session.

If you're one of the many who read this each week and have never been down on a Monday - maybe give it a go on your next run.

Half way through or wherever - just go for it. You'll have fun, you'll feel the pain, and you'll have had a few mins (probably not if you're doing it right) of improving your top end speed.

And if you want to do it in company - the last rep of tomorrows session is a good place to try it;

Looking forward to seeing you there.
